the weekend

In the weekend I went to Tauranga with my two cousins my aunty and uncle. I went down there for my aunty because this Wednesday she is sailing a waka to Gisborne to start Te Tuia 250. When I was down there I learnt how to tie a bowline knot.I enjoyed learning about the French Tahitian and where they come from. I didn’t like getting up early in the morning. What I think I did well was listening to the person who was teaching me how to tie knots. What I could do better next time is to get up when I am told to.

Here is a picture of how you tie the bowline knot.

DUFFY SHOW

Last Wednesday we had a Duffy show. The person who was talking to us about her reading was Rebecca Brothers. I enjoyed listening about her life and what she enjoyed. I learnt that basically the only way to get to places in life is if you try. I chose Geronimo Stilton because it made me picture the events in the book in my mind. Next time I think I should sing the song and not muck around with my friends. What I think I did well was not talking throughout the whole thing and telling my friends not to talk to me so we didn’t get in trouble. After it all we got our Duffy books.

maths

Today Te Ngahere have doing maths with Mr Lindsay. I learnt how to convert fractions into decimals. I enjoyed trying to put the fractions in order after I figured it out. What I think I could do better is ask my friends for help so I don’t disturb Mr Lindsay when he is helping others. What I think I did well is when my friends asked for help I helped them instead of telling them to ask Mr Lindsay. The reason why we are learning this is because this is the next step up from divisions and so that we know how to convert fractions into decimals.

First we divided the top number by the bottom number. Then if you have a remainder add another zero and add the remainder as a ten next to the zero and if you get the same answer more than twice then you put a dot at the top of the last number because it will just keep on going.

cross country

Last week on Friday August the 31st we had cross country which was held at the Bledisloe Domain. What I enjoyed was rolling down the hill with Anyah. What I learned is to not stay with people who are not going to try or push themselves. What I didn’t enjoy was running up the hill. Next time I will try harder and push myself more.

waka

On Sunday the first of September 2019 I went on my first waka hourua we travelled from Marae Tai in Auckland to Auckland City New Zealand Maritime Museum. I learnt how to steer the waka. I enjoyed learning how to put the sails up. What I didn’t enjoy was everybody telling me to sing when I had a sore throat.

The day before that we were sanding Haunui we were sanding off all of the black wood so we could oil it so it will look good for Te Tuia 250. I was sanding one of the manu’s. The waka I sailed to the New Zealand Maritime Museum on was called A1 /Aotearoa One.
